Many people feel tired after very busy times – this is natural. Feeling lethargic and fatigued for long periods that do not obviously relate to physical exertion is a different issue.
Fatigue is not the same as tiredness. Tiredness has a natural flow and a distinctive cause and effect. Fatigue behaves differently. Many people describe it as feeling as though their battery has been removed. Fatigue does not respond to rest in the same way that physical tiredness does and requires a different approach.
This book looks at the whole person and addresses factors of stress-related fatigue including the physiology, energy levels, emotions, life-balance, activity and looking after yourself. Discover how you can reduce your fatigue. Learn how to boost and replenish your natural energy using practical ideas and activities. Whether fatigue is new to you or an ongoing issue, this is the essential guide to accessing and sustaining healthy energy levels.

Fatigue – The Essential Guide by Caroline Khambatta and Nicky Jevon is for those of us who feel something isn’t right but lack the energy and drive to pursue the cause.
Fatigue gives you the answers you need and is a pleasure to read at the same time. The book helps readers quickly decide whether they are tired or actually fatigued and this is done with clarity, enabling the reader to go on to the next stage of helping themselves to heal.
In today’s 24/7 society it is reassuring to know many of us are not superhuman and need directional advice to help us achieve a healthy work/life balance.
Using simple exercises, the book shows you aspects of your life you may be inadvertently neglecting. Personally I would recommend this book to anyone as a means of possibly diverting any future chance of experiencing fatigue.

I would definitely recommend Fatigue, The Essential Guide by Caroline Khambatta and Nicky Jevon. A very difficult subject to cover but the book is clear and precise and for me personally I am finally able to fully understand the differences between fatigue and tiredness. Very detailed and packed full of information and tips on how to manage and identify fatigue or tiredness. Easy to follow exercises that are tried and tested. In many ways a reference book.

A very good book, explaining very well the difference between being tired and fatigue. I am just on my second time of reading the book to take everything in properly, making notes as I go along. The simple tests are a very good way of assessing your situation. After reading the book I think I had every associated symptom on the list plus too many hours in the day without enough stimulation that can also lead to fatigue. Just as the book says, I then used to worry excessively about everything. To sum up: an excellent book, not too big, pointing out the difference in fatigue and just being tired, how to achieve balance, and live in the moment.

This book is truly a must-read for all those suffering from (Chronic) Fatigue.
One of the most important messages in the book is how being tired or experiencing fatigue call for a different apporach. Where being tired needs rest, fatigue needs changes in our lives. These can be found in different areas as fatigue can be created by many different causes, such as overwhelm, underwhelm, perfectionism, seemingly irresolvable issues and problems experessing oneself emotionally.
The physiology of fatigue was already known well to me as I have been coached by Nicky, one of the authors, to deal with my own fatigue. I believe many readers will find much new information in it that will not only be helpful in finding better understanding of their condition, but will also provide hope. So often fatigue leads to misunderstanding ("It is just in your head") and reading this provides good explanations. It will also give insight into the relationship between stress and fatigue.
The books will help you look at your own life and what things may be draining your energy.
Thankfully not only are the causes explained, the book will also help you lay a foundation for recovery and reclaim energy through self-care.
The book is easy to read, with chapters that are short, to the point and filled with helpful checklists, examples and exercises.
Having done these exercises with Nicky in the past, I know these are a huge help for anyone dealing with fatigue and the symptomes that go with it!

This book really is essential for anyone suffering from fatigue, or any fatigue-related condition. It explains many elements of the condition very well and doesn't overload the reader at all. The explanations of what could be, very complicated and overwhelming terms associated with fatigue are easy to understand, and there are some very useful examples and exercises to consider in order to aid recovery. I especially liked the summing up points at the end of each chapter which highlight the essential points of each section. Anyone reading this book will come away better understanding this condition and more importantly, will have gained some very useful, but not too daunting, support techniques to get them back on the road to recovery.

Having worked with Caroline and Nicky for many years now I expected this to be a useful book as there is not much these two don't know about working with, and helping their clients, resolve, fatigue. I was not disappointed.
It is primarily a self-help book aimed at people who have fatigue (or who just think they might have). There are eight short chapters which explain and define fatigue, describe the causes of fatigue; then going on to offer some solutions. There is a particularly good chapter setting out the up-to-the-minute research on the biology of fatigue and the links between the brain, the mind and the action of the adrenal glands in triggering fatigue. The text is clear and extremely readable.
I would have liked to see a harder distinction given in the book between tiredness and fatigue in relation to what I call 'overwhelm'. For example: are we just tired because we have taken too much on and are working too hard; or is there something more fundamentally wrong - i.e. fatigue. But Nicky and Caroline do make it clear that, while tiredness is a temporary difficulty, fatigue is a serious health issue which requires important changes in thought, emotional expression, and behaviour. Putting it another way: tiredness is a natural process in which the body tries to conserve (or restore) energy by getting us to rest; while fatigue symptoms are used by the body to alert us to the fact that something is seriously awry.
One very difficult issue that can be hard to explain to sufferers from fatigue is how doing more, not less, can resolve the problem. In my view Caroline and Nicky manage this beautifully and I was struck by one passage in which they explain that finishing off situations that are draining you can liberate the energy needed for healthier projects.
Two more useful features, given at the end, are a reading list for people who desire more in-depth information, and a list of practitioners and organisations who offer effective treatment for fatigue. But many people will be helped just by following the advice given in the book.
