Need2Know encourages new authors to submit work that provides advice and information on varying issues. Here are some guidelines for authors to follow...
Specific contents are down to the author, but the following are a feature of the whole Need2Know Series:
Contents Page - include chapter heading and main sub heads.
Introduction - fairly short (500 - 1,000 words) saying who the book is for, what it will teach them and how it will benefit them.
Chapters - as friendly and conversational as possible and fairly short (around 1,800 - 2,000 words). Each chapter should include the following:
House Style
Any phrases or abbreviations used such as i.e., e.g., or etc will be punctuated. No CAPITALS, underlining, bold or "quotes" will be used for emphasis. Any word or phrase that needs emphasising will be set in Italics. When using speech, 'single quotation marks' will be used. Parts of text intended to appear in the form of a list or points will be set out as bullet text.
Submitting work
In order to make a decision about your book, we will need the following:
| Synopsis | A brief outline of your proposed book, including chapter headings and subheadings. |
| Draft Introduction | Outlining who the book is for and what it will do for the reader (500 - 1,000). |
| Sample Chapter | A single, whole chapter of your proposed book. |
| The Market | What do you think the market for your book is - do you have any statistics or other information to back this up? Who do you think will want to buy your book? |
| Author Profile | Profile of yourself, including qualifications, previous publications, and any background information relevant to your writing this book. |
Approach Empathetic - put yourself in the reader's shoes.
Positive - recognise and show understanding of problems/difficulties - but always from the point of view that these can be overcome.
Practical - advice and guidance must lead to things that people can actually do themselves.
Motivational - try to install confidence in the reader and prompt them to take action.
Book Length - we are aiming at the finished length of 20,000-25,000 words.
Contractual Terms - should we accept your book for publication, the contract we offer includes: an advance on anticipated royalties in 2 instalments, on commission and on publication; 15% royalties on received price of first 2,500 copies sold, 20% on received price of next 2,500 copies sold thereafter.
We are currently seeking author proposals for breast cancer, prostate cancer, anger management, men's health, women's health.
