Cyber Bullying Tips for Kids

Over 25% of children aged 11–19 have been bullied via a computer or mobile phone. Need2Know is helping to raise awareness so here are some tips on how to deal with cyber bullying and how to stay safe on the Internet…

  • You should not reply or respond in any way if someone sends you a bullying message or makes a nasty phone call to you.
  • If possible save all of the bullying messages you get, this way you can show an adult if you need to. You don’t have to read all of the messages if you don’t want to.
  • Tell an adult about the bullying, this should be someone you trust like a relative or teacher.
  • Always use a nickname on chat rooms or social networking sites.
  • NEVER give out personal details. Personal details include your full name, address, school and phone numbers.
  • NEVER arrange to meet up with someone you have met online. You should tell a trusted adult in the first instance; if you do decide to meet up please make sure you take a trusted adult with and meet in a public place.
