The market for a book about volunteering has never been filled with so much potential. Cutbacks in the public sector, an ageing population and unemployment are expanding the volunteering sector both in terms of what opportunities are available and also who is thinking about doing it. Whatever a person’s background, skills, abilities and experiences, there will be a volunteering opportunity somewhere which is worth exploring.

Chapters include information on:
The Changing Face of Volunteering
Why Volunteer?
Who Volunteers?
Deciding What to Do
Volunteering Opportunities
Getting Started
Fitting Volunteering Around your Lifestyle
Volunteering Overseas
Volunteering and the Law
Help List
Author Information
Leonie Martin has been a volunteer in a number of capacities beginning 20 years ago with the charity Victim Support. At the time Leonie was a junior manager in banking, so her volunteering role was very different to her day job.
Since then Leonie’s other volunteering roles have included working as a secretary for her local church, working with her School Parent’s Association and with the Derbyshire Youth Offending Service.
Ten years ago Leonie was diagnosed with MS and was unable to continue in her current career, so she took up further volunteering roles. For the past three years she has been a volunteer at her local branch of her MS support group; she is on the committee and is the newsletter and communications editor. Leonie has also carried out media advocacy roles for the MS Society and MS trust to raise awareness of the condition.
This book will be published June 2011. Pre-order a copy now. Please note, payment will be taken when you place your order, and you will receive the book in June.

  1. Volunteering in todays world - an essential guide

Posted by Ray Churcher on 4th Nov 2011

This is an excellent read for people who have spare time as a result of retirement, unemployment or as a change of lifestyle. The author brings out the many opportunities for volunteering whether for enjoyment, skills development or a step towards achieving sometyhing else in life. An easy read with many case studies and a real 'eye opener' regarding the wide range of volunteering opportunities available.
