Puppy-Proofing Your Home

Puppies eat everything and are in to everything, which is why you’ll need to keep anything they can chew out of their way.
Keep all electrical cables away from your puppy, as they will have a tendency to chew things. You can try taping cables to the wall with strong masking tape or invest in a cable tidy to prevent chewing.
Don’t leave small items lying around, like jewellery, buttons, pens, coins, pins, needles, screws and marbles, as a puppy is liable to try to swallow them.
Avoid leaving food out on tables and counter tops within your puppy’s reach as it will get stolen. This is until your puppy learns that ‘no’ means no.
Lock away any cleaning products and medications that can harm dogs. Puppies are great chewers and even if things are in strong containers, they may be able to bite through.
Get a child gate to stop your puppy going into areas of the home that are dangerous.
Warn your children about the dangers of leaving chocolate lying around. This can kill a fully grown dog, never mind a puppy.
If you have a garden, make sure it’s adequately fenced. Remember, some puppies can jump quite high.
Remove all heavy objects that can be knocked over. You don’t want your puppy to end up with concussion.
Remove all rugs, especially ones with tassels as they’re irresistible to puppies!
