If you find yourself in the position of caring for someone, several questions will need answering, for example what financial help is available for caregivers, and how is it accessed? And what respite care is available? Caring – The Essential Guide aims to cover everything that a caregiver needs to know in order to access all of the help they are eligible for. The book will also address the different circumstances people can find themselves caring in – for example, being a caregiver for a physically or sensory disabled person, caring for an elderly person or someone with mental health issues. It will also address being a young caregiver and providing palliative care for someone at the end of their life. An essential resource for caregivers, this book will provide practical and emotional support alongside advice on how to care for yourself to avoid burnout, the challenges presented by being a caregiver in any circumstance and the common pitfalls that can be avoided.

Recently I've had to give more and more care to my elderly mother. At first, other than the basics that came with common sense - housework etc - I had no idea where to start or how to improve her quality of life. This book has been invaluable. It has up to date information and advice and the sections are clearly headed and easy to read - vital as I don't have time to read huge chunks of text or a whole book start to finish. I can just dip in and out of the sections i need in this one. It also has plenty of case studies, helping me remember that I'm not the only one, and plenty of information on where to get help and support. It also covers caring for people who are disabled, mentally ill or who have sensory impairments. I would recommend this for any carer looking for some extra advice.
